Jamie Papish is a LA based percussionist for hire as well as a session musician, hand drum teacher, percussion section leader, band producer and gigging percussionist with a number of Los Angeles-based world music groups. As a LA based percussionist, he is extremely reliable and professional and can adapt to any situation and many styles of music including Middle Eastern (Arabic), Persian (Iranian), Turkish, Jewish (Sephardic & Ashkenazi), Greek, Bulgarian, Armenian, West African, Latin, Flamenco, Spiritual/Kirtan, Qawwali, Bhangra, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Funk, Hip Hop, Rock and Country. He is a valuable member of many music ensembles in Los Angeles and around the world with hundreds of performances to his credit.
As a session musician, he has recorded on numerous CDs, movie and game soundtracks including 2 tracks with the Kronos Quartet’s “Floodplain”.
He teaches private and group lessons focusing on rhythms and techniques on Doumbek (aka Derbakki, Darbuka), Riq (Arabic Tambourine), Frame Drums (Tar/Bendir), Daf (Kurdish/Iranian Frame Drum with rings), Tombak (Persian Goblet Drum) Cajon (Wooden Box Drum), Davul/Tappan (Turkish/Bulgarian Hanging Drum), Djembe and Udu (African Clay Pot Drum). Jamie also leads drum circles for ages 7 and up.
